THE CANTON

THE LA CANTONA BRAND IS AN EMOTIONAL AND WELL-DESERVED TRIBUTE TO DOÑA ANTONIA, MIGUEL'S MOTHER.

From the Cordoban town of Montoro, known for its centuries-old olive groves and excellent extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) , comes the story of Antonia, better known as “La Cantona.” She earned this nickname when she moved to the family farmhouse after marrying Miguel's father back in the 1960s. Her strong character and passion for the land marked the beginning of a tradition that continues today with our artisanal olive oil.

THE CANTON

AHEAD OF HER TIME

Antonia began working in the traditional olive harvest at just 14 years old, in the heart of the Jaén countryside. On her knees, in the cold winter, she hand-picked the olives that would later become a gourmet oil of exceptional quality. The olives were measured in fanegas (a unit of dry measure) and the day's work was paid by the piece, in a process as arduous as it was authentic. Today, at La Cantona, we continue to produce our organic olive oil with that same respect for the land and the product. A healthy extra virgin olive oil , full of flavor, ideal for those who value the Mediterranean diet, quality, and tradition.

THE CANTON

The Maroto farmhouse is located within the municipality of Marmolejo, in the region of La Campiña de Jaén, south of Sierra Morena.

The estate, nestled along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, was once a hub for intensive livestock farming, but Miguel Cantón , its young and enthusiastic manager, has made a firm commitment to modern olive cultivation. Its 16 hectares are home to centuries-old Picual olive trees, new intensive plantings of the same variety, and more recent hedgerow cultivation of the Arbequina variety, also known as super-intensive farming.
